LLB Law with Foundation Year
About this course
Law is the framework through which societies define rights and responsibilities, regulate behaviour, and provide mechanisms for resolving disputes. It is not simply a set of rules; it reflects and shapes the social, moral, and political values of the communities that create it, and understanding law means understanding something about justice, power, and the organisation of social life. Studying law at degree level develops exceptional analytical, argumentative, and written skills alongside detailed knowledge of the legal rules and principles that govern commercial, criminal, and civil life. At the University of Hull, the Law with Foundation Year degree runs over four years in full-time mode. The foundation year provides an academic entry route that builds the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the main law degree, making the programme accessible to students with a wide range of prior qualifications. In the main degree, you will study the fundamentals of commercial, criminal, public, and private law alongside the social, moral, and political roles that law plays in protecting human rights, safeguarding the environment, and adapting to new technologies including artificial intelligence. Hull's law school engages with both the established foundations of legal practice and the emerging challenges that law faces in a rapidly changing world. Law graduates are among the most employable of any degree, because the skills of legal analysis, precise argument, and written and oral communication are valued across an enormous range of professions. Many go on to qualify as solicitors or barristers through the Legal Practice Course or the Solicitors Qualifying Examination, while others move into the civil service, banking and finance, human resources, journalism, public policy, and commercial roles where legal knowledge and analytical rigour are genuine assets. For those drawn to further study, the degree provides a strong foundation for postgraduate work in law or related disciplines. The typical entry tariff is 104 points.
