LLB Law with French
About this course
Law with French is a degree for those who want to combine rigorous legal training with language study, building the skills to work in the increasingly international and interconnected contexts of modern legal practice. Legal systems do not exist in isolation: commercial law, human rights, international trade, and European legal frameworks all require practitioners who can engage with the law as it operates across borders and language communities. At the University of Warwick, this four-year, full-time programme provides a thorough grounding in English law alongside a genuine engagement with the French legal system and the French language, culminating in a year abroad in a French-speaking country. You will study the core subjects of the English law degree, including contract, tort, constitutional law, criminal law, and equity, while also developing your understanding of French private and public law and the ways in which the two systems compare. Your French language skills are developed throughout the programme to a level that allows you to engage with legal materials, conduct research, and communicate professionally in French. The year abroad, typically spent studying law at a French university, is both an academic and a personal formation, giving you experience of a different legal culture and the confidence that comes from navigating an unfamiliar environment. Graduates of Law with French at Warwick are well placed for careers in international commercial law, EU law, human rights, cross-border litigation, and legal roles in international organisations. Many also go on to qualify as solicitors or barristers through the established professional routes, and the bilingual legal training gives them a genuine advantage in firms with French-speaking clients or offices in France, Belgium, or other Francophone jurisdictions. Postgraduate study in comparative law, international law, or European law is also a natural next step for those who want to develop their expertise further.
