BSc Management (Marketing)
About this course
Management as a discipline is concerned with how organisations set goals, allocate resources, coordinate people and make decisions. The marketing specialisation within it focuses particularly on how organisations understand their markets and customers, develop products and services that meet genuine needs, and communicate their value effectively. Studied together, they give you a rigorous grounding in business thinking alongside a deep understanding of the consumer-facing side of commercial life. At the University of Manchester, this three-year full-time degree develops both analytical and practical capabilities in a challenging academic environment. You will study the core areas of management, including strategy, finance, organisational behaviour, operations and the broader economic and social environment in which businesses operate. Within the marketing specialism you will examine consumer behaviour, brand management, market research, digital marketing, product development, pricing and the role of creativity in commercial communication. The programme develops your ability to think strategically, work with data, communicate persuasively and collaborate in teams, all skills that are central to effective management and marketing practice. Graduates with management and marketing expertise are sought across a wide range of industries. Advertising, brand management, market research, digital marketing, retail, financial services, technology, media and the public sector all employ graduates who combine commercial awareness with an understanding of how people and markets behave. Many graduates join graduate training schemes that lead to management roles across a broad range of organisations, while others move directly into marketing roles. Further study at postgraduate level, including MBA programmes and specialist marketing qualifications, is also a common pathway for those who want to advance quickly or specialise further.
