At Glasgow Caledonian University, this four-year full-time degree provides a thorough grounding in the fundamental principles of mechanical engineering alongside the breadth and flexibility to explore the areas that matter most in the contemporary engineering landscape, including renewable energy systems, advanced manufacturing, aerospace innovation, and intelligent control technologies. A placement or sandwich year in industry is built into the programme, giving you extended professional experience, and a year abroad is also available, adding an international dimension to your education. You will learn to model and analyse mechanical systems, to design solutions that meet competing constraints, and to communicate your engineering thinking to technical and non-technical audiences. Graduates work across aerospace, automotive, energy, manufacturing, oil and gas, construction, and many other sectors, in roles including design engineer, manufacturing engineer, project engineer, and systems engineer. The degree provides the academic basis for Chartered Engineer status through the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. A year abroad and industrial placement significantly strengthen employability and professional readiness. Many graduates also pursue postgraduate study or move into engineering management as their careers develop.
