About this course

Music and drama together explore two of the most immediate and socially powerful arts. Music organises sound in time to create meaning, emotion, and experience that transcends language. Drama uses the body, voice, text, and space to enact human situations and to reflect society back to itself in ways that can entertain, challenge, disturb, and illuminate. Studied together at degree level, they develop a richly integrated creative and critical toolkit, and they share more than might at first be obvious: both are collaborative practices, both are temporal arts that unfold in performance, and both demand disciplined technique in service of expressive truth. At Bangor University, this three-year full-time programme includes a foundation year, a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement experience, making it an unusually well-structured programme for creative arts students. You will develop practical skills in musical performance, composition, and musical analysis alongside acting, directing, devising, and theatrical production. The combination develops your ability to create, perform, and reflect critically on both art forms, and the breadth of training you receive prepares you for the varied and portfolio-driven careers that the creative industries often require. Bangor's bilingual Welsh and English environment also gives you a distinctive cultural context for the study of music and drama. Graduates from music and drama programmes go on to careers as performers, musicians, actors, directors, music educators, drama teachers, arts administrators, and community arts practitioners. Many develop portfolio careers that combine several of these activities. Further study at postgraduate level in music, theatre, or arts education is available for those who wish to deepen their expertise.
