BSc Neuroscience with Psychology with Foundation Year
About this course
Neuroscience with psychology explores two disciplines that have always been deeply connected, asking how the brain produces the mind and how the mind relates to behaviour. Neuroscience examines the nervous system at multiple levels, from the molecular and cellular mechanisms of neural signalling through the organisation of brain regions and circuits to the complex cognitive and emotional processes that emerge from neural activity. Psychology approaches similar questions from the perspective of behaviour and mental function, using experimental and theoretical methods to understand perception, cognition, emotion, development, and social interaction. At the University of Keele, this four-year, full-time programme includes a foundation year that builds the biological and psychological foundations needed before progressing to degree-level study. The neuroscience strand is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology and investigates neuroanatomy and neurophysiology in depth, while the psychology strand explores human social interaction, cognition, and development. Together, they give you a scientifically rigorous understanding of how the human mind and brain work in everyday life and in the context of neurological and psychological conditions. The programme is designed to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing you for careers across neuroscience, psychology, and the biological sciences. A typical entry tariff of 56 points reflects a genuinely inclusive admissions approach, welcoming students from a wide range of prior backgrounds. Graduates from neuroscience with psychology programmes go on to careers in clinical research, pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, healthcare science, psychology services, educational and occupational psychology support roles, and academic research. Many graduates continue to postgraduate training in clinical psychology, neuroscience, or pharmacology, or pursue doctoral research in areas such as cognitive neuroscience, neurodegeneration, or developmental psychology. The combination of biological and psychological understanding is genuinely valuable across any field concerned with human health, behaviour, and wellbeing.
