MSci Nursing (Adult And Child)
About this course
Nursing across two fields of practice is one of the most demanding and professionally rewarding qualifications available in healthcare. Adult and child nursing covers the care of people from infancy through to old age, and qualifying in both fields means you will develop the breadth of clinical knowledge, the flexibility of professional judgment, and the range of practical skills to work effectively with patients across the full human lifespan. Both fields demand compassion, clinical competence, and the ability to work in fast-moving, emotionally complex environments. At Edge Hill University, this four-year full-time programme leads to a dual-field nursing qualification and eligibility to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council in both adult and children's nursing. The extended duration reflects the demands of qualifying in two fields: you will develop the specialist knowledge and clinical skills of each, including the developmental physiology and family-centred care approaches central to children's nursing alongside the adult nursing competences needed for medical, surgical, and community settings. Practice placements are extensive throughout the programme, placing you in real clinical environments with real patients from early in your studies, so that theory and practice develop together. You will also develop leadership skills, preparing you not just to practise effectively but to contribute to the quality and development of nursing care as your career advances. Edge Hill's nursing programme benefits from its strong partnerships with NHS trusts and other healthcare providers, giving you access to a wide range of placement settings. Graduates are eligible to register as qualified nurses in both adult and children's fields, opening employment across NHS hospitals, community nursing services, paediatric units, and other healthcare settings. Postgraduate study, specialist qualifications, and advanced practice routes are all well-supported pathways for those who wish to develop further.
