BSc Nursing (Adult)
About this course
Adult nursing is one of the most direct routes into a healthcare career that has both immediate practical impact and significant long-term scope for development. Adult nurses work with patients across the full spectrum of healthcare settings, from accident and emergency departments to surgical wards, community clinics and specialist centres for long-term conditions. The role requires clinical knowledge, technical skill, emotional intelligence and the ability to communicate clearly with patients, families and multi-disciplinary teams under pressure. It is a profession where both the science and the human dimensions of care matter in equal measure. At Anglia Ruskin University you will study adult nursing over three years of full-time study on a person-centred programme that combines academic preparation with substantial clinical experience in placement settings. You will have the opportunity to focus your placement experience in either primary and community care or acute hospital environments, allowing you to develop your professional identity and skills in the setting that most interests you. Throughout the programme you will study anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, nursing assessment and clinical reasoning, care planning, and the legal, ethical and professional frameworks that govern nursing practice. The typical tariff of 104 reflects a programme with accessible entry requirements, reflecting the NHS's commitment to recruiting nurses from a wide range of educational backgrounds. On completing the programme you will be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a registered adult nurse. Career pathways from adult nursing are broad: hospital nursing in specialist areas including critical care, cardiology, oncology, respiratory and neurology, community and district nursing, practice nursing, nursing management, advanced clinical practice and specialist nursing roles. Many nurses pursue postgraduate qualifications to develop specialist expertise or move into leadership, education or research. Demand for registered nurses in the UK remains consistently high, and the variety of clinical settings available gives adult nursing graduates both stability and genuine career diversity.
