Mental health nurses work across inpatient, community and crisis settings, providing assessment, care planning, psychological intervention, medication management and the kind of continuous human presence that can be the difference between a person's stability and a crisis spiralling further. At the University of Derby, this direct entry programme is designed specifically for applicants who already hold a Foundation Degree and are registered as Nursing Associates, offering an 18-month full-time accelerated route to registration as a mental health nurse. The programme is a holistic learning experience that enables you to become emotionally resilient and transformational as a registered nurse, equipping you to meet the unique challenges of mental health nursing at a professional level. The programme includes a foundation year element and a year abroad component, extending the learning to two years overall with the international dimension broadening your understanding of how mental health care is organised and delivered in different national contexts.
