BSc Physics with Artificial Intelligence (Industrial)
About this course
Physics with artificial intelligence brings together the most fundamental of all sciences and the technology that is reshaping how that science, and almost every other field of human activity, is practised. Physics is concerned with the deepest principles of how nature works, from quantum mechanics and electromagnetism to thermodynamics and the physics of matter at every scale. Artificial intelligence provides a powerful new set of tools for scientific discovery, data analysis, and pattern recognition that are transforming the pace and nature of physics research and application. At the University of Leeds, this four-year full-time programme combines the core curriculum of a physics degree with specialist training in the methods and principles of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science. You will study classical and quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, optics, statistical physics, and modern physics alongside programming, neural networks, and the computational methods that AI researchers and physicists increasingly use as a matter of course. The industrial element of the programme is a distinctive feature: the sandwich component means you will spend a substantial period working within an industrial or research organisation, applying your physics and AI skills in a professional context and building experience that significantly strengthens your graduate profile. Work placement is embedded in this industrial route. Leeds has strong research activity in both physics and computational science, and the programme benefits from a department that is actively engaged with the technologies and scientific challenges it teaches. The combination of physics rigour and AI capability is increasingly sought across the full range of science, technology, and engineering sectors. Graduates work in technology companies, research institutions, financial services, data science, scientific computing, and the full range of industries being transformed by AI. Postgraduate study in physics, data science, machine learning, or applied AI is a well-established route for those who wish to develop specialist research or technical expertise.
