Ranked 6th in subjects aligned to Physics for ‘overall positivity’ in the NSS 2025 (according to Times Higher Education NSS 2024 methodology applied to the NSS 2025 data). Physics is the study of matter, energy and the fundamental forces that govern the universe, from the tiniest subatomic particles to vast galaxies. Data Science combines mathematical and computation tools and technology to extract insight and predictions from data in science and industry. The University of Leicester has extensive experience in this field, running data centres for international space missions such as Swift and hosting one of the UK’s five DiRAC high performance computing clusters , which is used for research into particle physics, astrophysics and space science.
