BSc Physics with Space Science
About this course
Physics with space science is a programme that brings together the fundamental laws of the physical universe with one of the most exciting applications of those laws: the exploration and understanding of space. Physics provides the rigorous theoretical and mathematical foundation, while space science opens questions about the cosmos that push those foundations to their limits, from the dynamics of planets and stars to the large-scale structure of the universe and the engineering of the systems that allow human beings to explore it. At Leicester, a university with an internationally recognised tradition in space research and instrumentation, this three-year full-time programme builds a strong foundation in classical and modern physics alongside specialist study in areas including space astronomy, Earth observation, rocket propulsion, and human spaceflight. You will develop the mathematical and experimental skills that physics demands alongside knowledge of the technologies and methods used to study the universe from both ground-based and space-based platforms. A sandwich year in industry, a year abroad, and a work placement are all built in, giving you professional experience in the space sector or related industries and an international perspective on how space science is practised in different national and agency contexts. Graduates are well placed for careers in the space and aerospace industries, which are expanding rapidly in the UK and globally. Roles in satellite engineering, mission analysis, Earth observation, space instrumentation, and research are natural destinations. Leicester's strong connections with the European Space Agency and the UK space industry are assets throughout the programme. Many graduates also enter broader physics and engineering careers, or continue to postgraduate study in space science, astrophysics, or aerospace engineering.
