Podiatry is the clinical discipline concerned with the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions affecting the feet, ankles, and lower limbs. The feet are among the most mechanically complex structures in the body, bearing the full weight of a person in motion and subject to a wide range of problems from skin and nail conditions to structural abnormalities, diabetic complications, and sports injuries. Podiatrists work across the NHS and private practice, contributing to the management of long-term conditions, post-surgical rehabilitation, and the prevention of serious complications for patients with diabetes, circulatory disorders, and rheumatic conditions. At the University of Huddersfield, this three-year, full-time programme leads to registration as a qualified podiatrist, enabling you to work in the NHS and independent sector on graduation. The degree combines scientific study with substantial clinical experience, so you will spend time in real patient-facing settings throughout your training. Academic content covers anatomy and physiology of the lower limb, biomechanics, pharmacology, dermatology, the pathology of systemic conditions that affect the feet, and the evidence base for clinical interventions.
