BSc Psychology (Clinical Psychology)
About this course
Psychology with a clinical psychology pathway focuses the scientific study of the mind and behaviour on the understanding and support of people experiencing mental, emotional, and psychological difficulties. Where general psychology develops broad knowledge of human cognition, development, personality, and social behaviour, the clinical pathway deepens your engagement with the theory, research, and practice most relevant to mental health. This part-time degree at London South Bank University is accredited by the British Psychological Society and includes a year abroad, giving you both professional recognition and an international dimension to your education. You will build a thorough grounding in the core areas of psychology during your first two years, following the standard BSc Psychology curriculum to develop the scientific understanding and research skills that underpin all professional psychological work. As the programme progresses, the clinical pathway brings mental health and psychological difficulties into sharper focus, asking how psychological problems arise, how they are assessed and formulated, and what therapeutic and support approaches are most effective. The BPS accreditation is significant: it means the degree satisfies the graduate basis for chartered membership, which is the standard prerequisite for postgraduate professional training as a registered psychologist. The part-time format makes the degree accessible to students with other commitments. Graduates who wish to practise as clinical or counselling psychologists will go on to doctoral-level professional training. Others use the degree as a foundation for roles in mental health support services, social care, counselling support, occupational health, education, research, and the many other fields where psychological understanding is professionally valuable.
