BSc Psychology
About this course
Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour, exploring how people think, feel, perceive, remember, decide and relate to others, and seeking to understand why individual and group behaviour takes the forms it does. It is a discipline that draws on biology, neuroscience, social science and philosophy, and it has applications across mental health, education, business, sport, health care, law and public policy. A degree in psychology develops both a substantial body of scientific knowledge and the research and analytical skills that are among the most versatile any undergraduate programme can offer. At King's College London this three-year full-time programme introduces you to the psychological sciences and their application to a variety of contemporary challenges. The course is accredited by the British Psychological Society, which has highlighted particular strengths including the emphasis on research-led teaching, modules dedicated to developing employability skills, and the wide range of discipline-specific opportunities, placements and internships available through the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, one of the world's leading centres for research in these fields. You will develop a thorough understanding of core areas including cognitive, social, developmental and biological psychology, alongside strong research skills developed through practical and statistical work. King's location in London and its connections to clinical and research institutions provide an unusually rich environment in which to study psychology. Graduates with a BPS-accredited degree hold the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership, which is the foundation for professional training as a clinical, educational, occupational, health or counselling psychologist. Many also pursue careers in research, health care, human resources, marketing, education, public sector management and the criminal justice system.
