About this course

Psychology is one of the most relevant and versatile degrees available. Understanding human thought and behaviour matters in healthcare, business, education, the criminal justice system, public health, and almost every other context in which people work with people. As a scientific discipline, it combines theoretical frameworks for understanding the mind with rigorous empirical methods for testing them, developing graduates who can think clearly about evidence and apply psychological principles to real-world problems. At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year full-time degree focuses on applying psychological principles to real-life contexts, giving you the knowledge and practical skills needed for a wide variety of careers. You will study cognitive, social, developmental, biological, and clinical psychology, developing understanding of how the mind works at multiple levels alongside the research methods skills needed to investigate psychological questions empirically. The programme includes a sandwich year placement, which gives you substantial professional experience in a relevant organisation before your final year, and a year abroad, allowing you to study psychology in a different academic and cultural context. Work placement activity is integrated throughout the programme. A typical entry tariff of 104 points applies. You will develop skills in research design, statistical analysis, critical evaluation of evidence, and the communication of psychological ideas clearly to different audiences. These are capabilities valued well beyond the psychology sector itself. Graduates from psychology programmes pursue careers in mental health services, human resources, education, social care, research, marketing, the civil service, and many other fields. Many use the degree as a foundation for postgraduate training in clinical, counselling, educational, forensic, or occupational psychology, all of which require further professional qualifications beyond the undergraduate degree.
