Quantity surveying and commercial management is concerned with the financial and contractual management of construction and infrastructure projects, from initial cost planning and procurement through to final account and dispute resolution. Quantity surveyors, also known as cost managers or commercial managers, are essential members of every significant construction project team, responsible for ensuring that projects are delivered within budget, that contracts are properly managed and that value for money is achieved throughout the process. At Robert Gordon University this four-year full-time programme prepares you for a career in the financial management and leadership of built environment projects. You will develop expertise in cost planning, procurement, contract law, project management, measurement and commercial management across both traditional and modern methods of construction. The programme is designed as a progression towards Chartered Surveyor status through the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a widely recognised professional qualification that opens career opportunities globally. Quantity surveying and commercial management graduates work with main contractors, specialist subcontractors, developer clients, public sector bodies, cost consultancies and project management organisations. Roles include quantity surveyor, cost manager, commercial manager, estimator, project manager and procurement specialist.
