BSc Real Estate
About this course
Real estate is the discipline concerned with the valuation, management, investment, and development of land and property. It is one of the largest asset classes in the global economy, and professionals who understand how to assess, acquire, manage, and develop property are in sustained demand across the commercial, residential, public, and institutional sectors. The discipline draws on economics, law, planning, finance, and construction knowledge, requiring both analytical precision and the commercial judgement to make sound decisions in complex and dynamic markets. At Sheffield Hallam University, this part-time programme includes a foundation year, a sandwich year, and work placement opportunities. You will develop a well-rounded knowledge of real estate alongside the professional practice skills that a career in the field requires. The curriculum addresses real-world challenges facing the profession, from the need to build more homes and the pressure to achieve sustainability in the built environment to the complexities of commercial property investment and management. Part-time study allows you to progress your qualifications alongside work or other commitments, and the foundation year gives students without the standard entry qualifications a pathway into the degree. Placements and the sandwich year provide professional experience that is an important bridge between academic learning and employment. Graduates of Real Estate work as property managers, surveyors, valuers, development managers, asset managers, and consultants across commercial and residential property, housing associations, local authorities, NHS estates, retail property companies, and investment funds. Many pursue Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors membership, which is the recognised professional standard that opens national and international career opportunities. The sustainability challenges facing the property sector mean that graduates with knowledge of both commercial practice and environmental responsibility are particularly well placed.
