About this course

Robotics and artificial intelligence together represent two of the most significant technological developments of our era. Robotics is concerned with the design and operation of systems that can sense, reason, and act in the physical world, drawing on mechanical engineering, control theory, and computer science. Artificial intelligence provides the computational methods, including machine learning, computer vision, and planning algorithms, that allow robotic systems to improve their operational performance, adapt to changing environments, and take on tasks that were previously thought to require human intelligence. Together, they are reshaping manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, exploration, and countless other domains. The five-year full-time Robotics and AI MEng at the University of Glasgow is an integrated master's degree that develops your expertise in both areas simultaneously, building on the conviction that robotics and AI must be understood together rather than in isolation. You will study the theoretical foundations of robotics, including kinematics, dynamics, control systems, and embedded computing, alongside the core methods of AI, such as machine learning, neural networks, computer vision, and autonomous decision-making. The programme places both themes at the core of the curriculum and develops the depth of understanding needed to work at the frontier of these combined technologies. Glasgow's research strengths in robotics and AI, and its industry connections across the defence, aerospace, healthcare, and energy sectors, provide a rich environment for advanced study. With a typical entry tariff of 216 points, the programme is demanding and suited to students with strong mathematical and computing backgrounds. Graduates are exceptionally well placed for careers in robotics engineering, AI research and development, autonomous systems, space and aerospace technology, industrial automation, and the technology sector more broadly. Many also continue to doctoral research at the frontier of the discipline.
