BA Sport Business Management
About this course
Sport business management sits at the meeting point of two large and growing industries, the global sports sector and the wider commercial world of business, events, media, and sponsorship. Sport is now a multi-billion-pound industry that encompasses professional clubs, governing bodies, broadcasting rights, sponsorship deals, sports tourism, fitness and wellness services, and the infrastructure of venues and events. Managing within this world requires both a genuine understanding of sport and a solid foundation in business strategy, marketing, finance, and leadership. At the University of Stirling, this four-year full-time programme provides that combination, drawing on Stirling's longstanding strengths in sport and in business education. A year abroad is available, giving you the opportunity to study in a different sporting and commercial culture and to develop the international perspective that is increasingly important in a sector with global reach. You will study the business principles that apply across sports organisations of all kinds, alongside specialist knowledge of the sports industry itself: its structure, its commercial dynamics, its media relationships, and the challenges of managing athletes, events, and fan communities. The programme develops your analytical and decision-making capabilities alongside the communication and leadership skills that management careers require. Graduates go on to careers in professional sport, sports events management, sports marketing, facility management, governing bodies, community sport development, and the broader leisure and entertainment sector. Many find roles with professional clubs, national sports organisations, or the commercial partners that sponsor and broadcast sport, while others build careers in sports consultancy or entrepreneurship. Postgraduate study in sport management, business administration, or events management is another route, and Stirling's reputation in this area provides a strong platform for career development.
