BSc Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences
About this course
Sport, health, and exercise sciences is an interdisciplinary field that examines human physical performance and wellbeing from three complementary perspectives: physiology, which addresses how the body responds and adapts to physical demands at the level of cells, organs, and systems; biomechanics, which analyses the mechanical forces and movement patterns involved in physical activity; and psychology, which explores the mental processes that shape motivation, performance, and behaviour in sport and exercise contexts. The three-year full-time Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences programme at Brunel University London develops your understanding of how the human body works on physiological, biomechanical, and psychological levels, and teaches you how to apply that knowledge to training methods, mental techniques, and nutritional strategies that enable people to consistently perform at the upper ranges of their abilities. You will gain insight into how the mind and body respond to the demands of sport and exercise, and how they react under intense conditions such as strenuous physical activity or competition. A year abroad gives you the opportunity to study in a different country, broadening your perspectives on how sport and exercise science are approached in different cultural and institutional contexts. With a typical entry tariff of 120 points, the programme is accessible to students who combine scientific curiosity with a genuine interest in physical performance and health. Graduates from sport, health, and exercise sciences programmes pursue careers in performance analysis, strength and conditioning, exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology support, public health promotion, sport development, physiotherapy (following further training), coaching, and roles in the fitness and wellness industry. Many also go on to postgraduate study in sport science, exercise physiology, or related health sciences.
