BSc Sport Rehabilitation
About this course
Sport rehabilitation is a clinical discipline concerned with the assessment, treatment and management of musculoskeletal injuries and related conditions. It draws on anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and clinical reasoning to help people recover function, manage pain and return to physical activity, whether that means getting back to daily life or returning to competitive sport. The field sits alongside physiotherapy and sports medicine, with a particular emphasis on exercise-based rehabilitation and the physical demands of athletic performance. At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year full-time degree gives you the knowledge and practical skills to work as a sport rehabilitation professional with a wide range of people, from those recovering from everyday injuries to elite athletes. You will study the science of movement and injury, learn to assess and diagnose musculoskeletal conditions, and develop evidence-based treatment and rehabilitation strategies. The programme also addresses the broader public health dimensions of the field, recognising that improving physical function and supporting active lifestyles benefits individuals and communities well beyond sport. A year abroad is available, giving you the opportunity to gain international experience and perspective that broadens your understanding of the profession. Practical clinical skills are developed throughout the degree. You will work in supervised settings where you can apply your learning to real cases, building confidence in assessment, treatment planning and patient communication. Critical thinking and evidence appraisal are also central: you will learn to evaluate research and apply findings to your clinical decisions, which is a core competency for a professionally registered practitioner. Graduates from sport rehabilitation programmes work in professional and elite sport, private clinical practice, NHS and community settings, fitness and wellness facilities, and military and occupational health. The degree provides a foundation for further postgraduate study and for the professional development that characterises a career in clinical practice.
