BSc Sport Rehabilitation
About this course
Sport rehabilitation is a clinical discipline concerned with the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries sustained during sport and physical activity. It draws on anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and evidence-based clinical practice to develop practitioners who can accurately diagnose injury, design and deliver rehabilitation programmes, and support athletes in returning safely to training and competition. Sport rehabilitation therapists work alongside physiotherapists, sports medicine doctors, and strength and conditioning coaches across elite, community, and clinical settings. At the University of Salford, this three-year, full-time programme allows you to apply high-level academic and practical management skills to the full cycle of musculoskeletal injury care, from initial assessment and acute management through progressive rehabilitation and return to sport. You will develop knowledge of anatomy, injury mechanisms, clinical assessment techniques, therapeutic modalities, and the physical and psychological dimensions of injury and recovery. Salford's strong connections to sport organisations and healthcare settings provide opportunities for applied clinical learning throughout the programme. Graduates are well-placed for careers as sport rehabilitation therapists working in professional and semi-professional sport clubs, physiotherapy clinics, NHS musculoskeletal services, gyms, and private practice. Many pursue registration with the Society of Sports Therapists or Sport and Exercise Medicine associations, and some go on to postgraduate study in physiotherapy, sport and exercise medicine, or strength and conditioning. The combination of clinical knowledge, practical rehabilitation skills, and sport-specific expertise the degree develops is valued across the full range of sport and physical activity settings, from elite performance environments to community health and wellbeing programmes.
