BA Television (Advanced Entry)
About this course
Television as a medium has changed profoundly in recent years, with streaming platforms, on-demand viewing and global production networks transforming how content is commissioned, made and consumed, but the core craft of making compelling television, the skill of combining image, sound, performance and story into something that holds an audience's attention, remains as demanding and as central as it has ever been. This advanced entry degree at Edinburgh Napier University is designed for students who already have some experience or prior qualification in the field and want to progress quickly to a higher level of professional and creative practice. This two-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, giving you the chance to work and study within a different broadcasting or production culture. You will develop advanced skills in television production, directing, cinematography, editing, sound design, producing and the management of creative projects from development through to delivery. The programme engages with the full range of television genres, from drama and documentary to factual entertainment and short-form digital content, and you will work on projects that develop your creative voice alongside your technical and production competencies. You will engage with the changing business and commissioning landscape of television, understanding how the industry works as well as how to make work within it. Graduates move into careers across the television, film and digital content industries, working as directors, producers, editors, camera operators, production managers and in a wide range of specialist roles. The industry is highly competitive, and the advanced entry model of this degree means you arrive at the graduate level with a more developed portfolio and skillset than a conventional three-year route would provide. Many graduates also build portfolio careers that span broadcast television, online content, documentary and commercial production.
