BA Television and Radio Production
About this course
Television and radio production are the disciplines through which broadcast media content is conceived, made, and delivered to audiences. Television and radio remain central to how millions of people receive news, entertainment, documentary, drama, and cultural content, and the skills involved in producing that content, from storytelling and editorial judgment to directing, sound design, and the management of complex productions, are in sustained demand across both traditional broadcasters and the streaming and podcast platforms that have expanded the media landscape dramatically. At the University of Salford, this three-year full-time degree is taught within MediaCityUK in Salford, which is home to BBC and ITV operations alongside a range of production companies, digital studios, and media start-ups. This location is not simply a backdrop; it is an active professional environment that provides direct access to industry contacts, professional facilities, and working practitioners. You will develop skills in television and radio production across a range of formats and genres, working with industry-standard equipment in production facilities that reflect professional practice. The programme develops both the practical production skills of direction, editing, sound, and presenting, and the editorial and storytelling judgment that good broadcast content requires. You will work on real productions throughout the programme, developing the collaboration skills, professional habits, and portfolio of work that employers in broadcast and digital media look for. The MediaCity location provides connections that are genuinely useful for career development before you graduate. Graduates pursue careers as producers, directors, researchers, journalists, presenters, sound designers, and production managers in television, radio, podcasting, streaming, and digital content production. Many build careers at the BBC, ITV, and independent production companies, or in the growing independent podcast and digital media sector. The storytelling and production skills the degree develops are also relevant in corporate media, public relations, and content marketing.
