About this course

Accounting and finance are the twin foundations of commercial and financial life. Accounting is the practice of recording, classifying, and reporting financial transactions, providing the information that allows organisations to understand their financial position and performance, and that regulators, investors, and other stakeholders rely on to make decisions. Finance is concerned with how money is raised, allocated, and managed, and with the evaluation of financial decisions and the risks they involve.

Together, they equip you to understand and contribute to the financial governance of organisations of all kinds.

At Swansea University, this three-year full-time BSc (Hons) in Accounting and Finance is designed to produce highly skilled, career-ready graduates with the theoretical, technical, and practical knowledge to enter the workforce with confidence. You will study financial accounting, management accounting, corporate finance, auditing, taxation, investment, and financial markets, developing both the technical competence that professional accounting and finance requires and the analytical and communication skills that employers across the sector value. The programme's employability focus means that professional relevance is built into the curriculum, with content aligned to the examinations and standards of the major professional bodies in accounting and finance.

Graduates are well-placed to pursue professional qualifications in accountancy, with recognition from many major accounting bodies meaning that qualifying exam exemptions may be available. Careers in audit, financial analysis, management accounting, tax, treasury, investment banking, and financial consulting are all accessible to graduates with a strong accounting and finance background. Many graduates go on to become chartered accountants or chartered financial analysts, while others build careers in corporate finance, financial management, and the wider business world.

Postgraduate study in accounting, finance, or business administration is another route for those who wish to develop specialist expertise.

I was sceptical before starting β€” now I'd recommend it to anyone. The best part: the course strikes a good balance between theory and practical application. If I'm honest, some seminar groups were too big for meaningful discussion. On the c…

This is the perfect place to study this subject. The best part: the careers office is relentless about getting you internships. If I'm honest, would like to see more industry guest speakers in later years. On the city β€” good transport links…
