About this course

Accounting and finance provides the technical and analytical foundations on which sound business decisions are built. Adding people management to that combination recognises a reality that professional practice confirms: financial expertise alone is rarely sufficient. The ability to lead teams, manage performance, understand organisational behaviour, and work effectively with people is just as important as technical competence for those who aspire to senior roles in finance and business.

At Abertay University, this four-year full-time degree combines rigorous training in accounting and financial management with a sustained focus on people management and organisational behaviour. Note that this programme is available for advanced entry to Year 2 only, meaning entry is open to those who already hold suitable qualifications and are eligible to join the programme at that stage. You will develop expertise in financial reporting, management accounting, audit, taxation, and financial analysis, alongside the interpersonal and leadership skills needed to manage teams and contribute to organisational strategy.

The programme includes a year abroad, offering the opportunity to study in a different national context and to broaden your understanding of international business and accounting practice. A typical entry tariff of 104 points applies.

You will gain a strong foundation for professional accountancy qualifications, as well as the broader capabilities needed to succeed in management roles. The combination of financial and people skills is increasingly valued by employers who want graduates who can operate effectively at the boundary between technical financial work and organisational leadership.

Graduates go on to careers in accountancy, financial management, human resources, business consultancy, and general management. Many pursue professional qualifications with bodies such as ICAS, ACCA, or CIMA, and postgraduate study in accounting, finance, or management is a natural option for those seeking further specialisation.
