About this course

Accounting and financial management sit at the centre of how organisations understand their own performance and make decisions about resources, investment, and risk. Accounting provides the language and discipline for recording, reporting, and auditing financial information, while financial management applies economic and analytical thinking to questions of capital structure, investment appraisal, risk management, and value creation. Together they prepare you to operate at the financial heart of any organisation.

At the University of Sheffield, this three-year full-time programme is taught within Sheffield University Management School and draws on world-leading academic expertise. You will develop rigorous knowledge of financial reporting, management accounting, corporate finance, and the regulatory environment within which accounting operates, contextualised within the real role that finance plays in driving responsible and sustainable business. The programme includes a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement, providing exceptional professional and international experience before you graduate.

Sheffield's connections with leading organisations and its strong research culture ensure the curriculum reflects the latest issues shaping the profession.

The combination of academic rigour and professional experience at Sheffield produces graduates who are not only technically competent but who understand how accounting and finance function within the broader strategic and ethical context of business.

Graduates are well placed for professional training with the major accounting bodies, and many progress towards chartered accountant or chartered financial analyst qualifications. Careers span public practice, corporate finance, investment banking, management accounting, financial analysis, and the public sector. The degree also provides a foundation for postgraduate study in accounting, finance, or management.

Solid, with caveats
It's been a mixed experience, but mostly positive. The best part: case-based teaching forces you to think commercially. If I'm honest, a few modules feel under-resourced compared to the flagship ones. On the city β€” local cost of living is m…

There's a lot to love, but it's not without its flaws. The best part: the consulting projects with real companies genuinely prepare you for the working world. If I'm honest, admin can be slow to respond, especially at start of term. On the …
