About this course

Artificial intelligence is no longer a research curiosity or a distant prospect: it is a set of technologies, methods, and ideas that are reshaping how organisations operate, how decisions are made, and how the relationship between humans and machines is understood. Understanding AI, how it works, what it can and cannot do, and what ethical and social responsibilities surround its use, is increasingly important not just for technologists but for anyone working in a data-rich environment.

At Liverpool Hope University, this four-year programme includes a foundation year, a sandwich year in industry, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities, providing an unusually comprehensive range of structured learning experiences alongside the academic core. The foundation year makes the programme accessible to students who have strong potential but need additional preparation before the full AI degree begins. As you progress through the programme, you will study machine learning, neural networks, natural language processing, computer vision, robotics, and the mathematics and programming skills that underlie all of these.

You will also engage seriously with the ethical and societal dimensions of AI, including questions about bias, fairness, accountability, and the implications of increasingly autonomous systems. The sandwich year and work placements give you direct experience of how AI is developed and deployed in professional contexts, while the year abroad broadens your perspective on the international landscape of AI research and application.

The programme carries a typical entry tariff of 88 points, reflecting Liverpool Hope's commitment to widening access to technology education.

Graduates work as AI engineers, machine learning developers, data scientists, research scientists, and in roles across technology companies, financial services, healthcare, public sector analytics, and the growing number of industries integrating AI into their operations. Postgraduate study in AI, computer science, or data science is a well-trodden route for those who wish to move into research or more advanced technical roles.

A great decision
I've grown so much academically and personally here. The best part: the cohort are bright and motivated, which makes the learning environment great. If I'm honest, a few modules feel under-resourced compared to the flagship ones. On the cit…

Exceeded expectations
I was sceptical before starting β€” now I'd recommend it to anyone. The best part: the course strikes a good balance between theory and practical application. If I'm honest, some seminar groups were too big for meaningful discussion. On the c…
