About this course

Business management and politics is a combination that reflects the inseparable relationship between commerce and government. Business decisions are shaped by political choices: tax policy, regulation, trade agreements, labour law, and the political stability of the markets in which businesses operate all determine the environment in which organisations function. At the same time, political decisions are shaped by economic and commercial realities.

Students who understand both domains are better equipped to operate effectively in environments where these interactions are constant and consequential.

At the University of Aberdeen, this four-year full-time programme adds to a solid foundation in business, management, and organisations by focusing specifically on the role of government, political parties, issues, and policy and how they interact with the changing corporate landscape, big business, local and national economies, and the workforce. This is not a vague interdisciplinary programme but a coherent dual degree that takes both sides seriously. The programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study business and politics in a different national context and to develop the international perspective that both fields increasingly demand.

A typical entry tariff of 168 points applies.

You will develop skills in business analysis and strategy alongside political analysis and policy evaluation, as well as the research, argumentation, and communication skills that both disciplines develop. The combination is well suited to careers that operate at the interface of commercial and governmental decision-making.

Graduates go on to careers in business, the civil service, public affairs, policy analysis, management consultancy, corporate governance, government relations, and international organisations. Many continue to postgraduate study in business, politics, public policy, or law.

I was sceptical before starting β€” now I'd recommend it to anyone. The best part: case-based teaching forces you to think commercially. If I'm honest, would like to see more industry guest speakers in later years. On the city β€” good transpor…

Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: the consulting projects with real companies genuinely prepare you for the working world. If I'm honest, first-year classes can be quite large. On the city β€” good transport links make it ea…
