About this course

Business management is a discipline that draws on economics, organisational behaviour, finance, marketing, strategy and operations to understand how businesses are built and run. It asks why some organisations succeed and others fail, how leaders make decisions under uncertainty, how markets function, and how teams and resources can be directed toward the creation of value. It is one of the most practically oriented degrees available, with direct relevance to careers across every sector of the economy.

At the University of Buckingham, this three-year full-time degree integrates a foundation element that provides the conceptual and skills preparation you need before moving into the core business management curriculum. Buckingham's approach is shaped by its distinctive character as a private university with a strong emphasis on personal attention, small teaching groups and a close relationship between students and academic staff. The programme is designed to immerse you in the realities of the commercial world, developing not just knowledge of business functions but the confidence, judgement and entrepreneurial mindset needed to launch a business or drive meaningful change within an established organisation.

You will study the principal areas of management including strategy, finance, marketing, operations and leadership, building a rounded understanding of how organisations function and how they can be improved.

Graduates from business management programmes go on to careers across every sector, including management consultancy, financial services, marketing, operations, supply chain, human resources, entrepreneurship and public sector management. The broad analytical and leadership skills developed transfer well across industries, and many graduates begin their careers in generalist roles before developing specialist expertise over time. Further study options include specialist masters degrees in finance, marketing, international business or human resource management, as well as MBA programmes for those who return to postgraduate study having gained professional experience.
