About this course

Business with economics is a degree that gives you the commercial breadth of a business management qualification enriched by the analytical rigour and wider perspective that economics brings. Business equips you with the frameworks for understanding how organisations operate and compete, covering strategy, marketing, finance, operations, and human resources. Economics adds the discipline of analysing markets, incentives, and the aggregate forces that shape the commercial environment in which every business operates.

Understanding both gives you a more complete picture of the world in which business decisions are made.

At Anglia Ruskin University this three-year programme is designed for students who want a successful business career alongside a genuine appreciation of how economics shapes business practice on the ground. You will study the core areas of business management alongside economic analysis, covering microeconomics, macroeconomics, and the applied economic topics most relevant to commercial decision-making, including labour markets, pricing, competition policy, and the macroeconomic environment of business. The combination develops both the practical commercial skills and the analytical understanding of the forces beyond the firm that sophisticated business thinking requires.

Graduates of business with economics are valuable across a wide range of employers precisely because the combination of business fluency and economic analysis is relatively rare and genuinely useful. Management consultancy, financial services, corporate strategy, marketing, operations, human resources, and general management roles in companies across every sector are all accessible. Many graduates also go on to professional qualifications in accountancy or management, or to postgraduate study in business, economics, finance, or data science, building on the quantitative and analytical foundations the degree provides.

The combination positions you well for roles that require both operational commercial effectiveness and the ability to understand and interpret the broader economic context in which organisations operate.
