About this course

Engineering is one of the broadest and most impactful of the professional disciplines, concerned with applying scientific knowledge and mathematical principles to design, build, and improve systems, structures, and technologies that address human needs. The general engineering degree at the University of Northampton provides a broad foundation across the engineering disciplines, developing the analytical, practical, and professional skills needed to work in a range of engineering roles, while giving you the flexibility to shape your studies according to your interests and career direction.

At the University of Northampton, you will study engineering over three years of full-time study. The curriculum builds from the foundational principles of engineering science, including mathematics, physics, materials, and mechanics, through to more applied content covering design, manufacturing processes, project management, and the professional and ethical context of engineering practice. You will engage with laboratory and workshop activities that develop your practical skills alongside the theoretical content, and you will work on design projects that challenge you to bring together knowledge from across the programme to solve engineering problems.
