German and Swedish brings together two of the most significant Germanic language traditions, both with rich literary and cultural heritages and strong contemporary relevance. At University College London the four-year full-time programme is split equally between your two languages, developing your skills in speaking, listening, reading, writing and translation in both German and Swedish. Alongside language study you will engage with cultural topics including literature, history, film, linguistics and politics in both traditions, and a wide range of optional modules allows you to shape the degree around your interests. The third year is spent abroad, divided between German-speaking and Swedish-speaking countries, giving you immersive linguistic and cultural experience that transforms your language proficiency and deepens your understanding of both societies.
