About this course

Italian and management studies is an unusual but practically coherent combination that pairs deep engagement with one of Europe's richest cultural and linguistic traditions with the analytical and strategic frameworks of business management. Italy has one of the world's leading economies, known particularly for design, fashion, engineering and food, and Italian is both a valuable language in its own right and the gateway to this distinctive business and cultural context. The management studies strand provides the commercial understanding that makes language skills fully applicable in professional settings.

University College London is one of the UK's most internationally oriented universities, and this four-year full-time programme reflects that character. You will develop advanced Italian language skills alongside engagement with Italian literature, culture and history, taking your proficiency to a high academic level while also developing the cultural knowledge that genuine fluency requires. The management studies component covers strategy, finance, organisational behaviour, marketing and the analytical frameworks that underpin business decision-making.

The combination asks you to bring these two perspectives into contact with each other, understanding Italian business culture through the lens of both language and management theory.

The degree develops high-level language competence, commercial analytical thinking, cultural intelligence and the ability to work effectively across national and organisational boundaries. These are capabilities that are increasingly valued as business, cultural and political relationships with European partners remain important.

Graduates pursue careers in international business, management consulting, arts administration, the luxury and design industries, translation, diplomacy, cultural organisations and the financial sector. The combination of Italian and management is particularly well regarded by employers seeking graduates who can operate in Italian-speaking business environments. Postgraduate study in Italian, management, international business or European studies is a natural progression for those wishing to deepen their expertise.

Genuinely worthwhile
This is the perfect place to study this subject. The best part: the accounting and finance streams are taught by practitioners, not just academics. If I'm honest, a few modules feel under-resourced compared to the flagship ones. On the city…

A great decision
I've grown so much academically and personally here. The best part: the cohort are bright and motivated, which makes the learning environment great. If I'm honest, admin can be slow to respond, especially at start of term. On the city β€” loc…
