About this course

Marketing is the discipline that connects organisations to their audiences, and consumer cultures is the lens through which this degree approaches that connection. Understanding why people buy things, what meanings they attach to brands and products, how social and cultural forces shape taste and identity, and how digital environments have transformed the relationship between consumers and companies, is now as important for marketers as knowing how to run a campaign. This degree combines the practical skills of marketing with a deeper analytical understanding of how consumption works in contemporary society.

At the University of Gloucestershire, this three-year full-time programme gives you a grounding in marketing principles and practice alongside the cultural and social frameworks that help explain consumer behaviour. You will study how marketing strategies are developed and executed across digital and traditional channels, how brands are built and managed, how research informs decision-making, and how cultural trends shape what people want. The university strongly encourages students to secure a twelve-month industry placement to maximise employability after graduation and to build professional networks within commercial and third-sector organisations.

While the placement is not formally embedded as a sandwich year, this emphasis on industry experience means many students graduate with substantial professional credibility.

The careers available to marketing graduates span an enormous range of organisations and roles. Many work in brand management, digital marketing, advertising, public relations, social media, content strategy, and market research. Others move into marketing roles within charities, public bodies, arts organisations, and start-ups.

The analytical and creative skills the degree develops also transfer well into adjacent fields including communications, journalism, and business development. Further study at Masters level in marketing, consumer behaviour, or business is an option for those who want to deepen their expertise or specialise in a particular sector. The typical entry tariff is 72 points.

Highly recommend
I was sceptical before starting β€” now I'd recommend it to anyone. The best part: the opportunity to do independent research in the final year is a highlight. If I'm honest, accommodation allocation was stressful in the first year. On the ci…

A great decision
I've grown so much academically and personally here. The best part: the teaching staff are genuinely world-class and accessible. If I'm honest, a few modules feel under-resourced compared to the flagship ones. On the city β€” local cost of li…
