The programme covers mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, materials, manufacturing, and engineering design, as well as the petroleum engineering and energy-specific content that makes this degree distinctive. The four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, giving you an international perspective on engineering education and on the global energy industry, which is an important advantage given that oil and gas operations span dozens of countries.
Graduates are employed across the energy sector in roles including mechanical design, process engineering, project management, inspection, and operations management. The North Sea industry employs large numbers of Aberdeen graduates, but the skills are applicable in energy sectors worldwide. As the industry transitions, graduates with engineering depth and energy sector knowledge are also increasingly valuable in offshore wind, hydrogen, and carbon capture projects.
Professional engineering registration is a natural goal, and postgraduate study in mechanical or petroleum engineering is also an option.
