About this course

Politics and business management sit in a productive tension with each other. Politics examines how power is acquired, exercised and constrained, how public policy is made and how democratic and non-democratic systems function across different national and international contexts. Business management brings frameworks for understanding how organisations are structured, how decisions are made and how resources are directed.

The two disciplines are more closely related than they might initially appear: businesses operate in political and regulatory environments that shape every major decision, and political actors depend on their understanding of economic and commercial forces to govern effectively.

At Queen Mary University of London, this four-year full-time programme is taught by experts from both the School of Politics and International Relations and the School of Business and Management. You will develop an excellent grounding in political science, including political theory, comparative politics and international relations, alongside a thorough understanding of management techniques, organisational behaviour, marketing, finance and strategy. The combination prepares you to understand the forces at work in both political and commercial contexts, and to think across the boundary between the two.

Queen Mary's London location gives you direct access to government, financial institutions, international organisations, consultancies and the broad range of organisations where graduates from this programme find their careers.

Politics with Business Management graduates go on to careers in public affairs, government, the civil service, management consultancy, international business, public policy, communications, law, financial services and social enterprise. The combination is particularly well suited to roles that sit at the intersection of business and government, including regulatory affairs, corporate public affairs and policy consultancy. Further study at master's level in politics, international relations, public policy, management or law is a common next step.

A great decision
Coming here has changed how I think. The best part: case-based teaching forces you to think commercially. If I'm honest, the timetable has some awkward 9am / Friday afternoon slots. On the city β€” local cost of living is manageable if you sh…

Genuinely worthwhile
I've grown so much academically and personally here. The best part: the accounting and finance streams are taught by practitioners, not just academics. If I'm honest, some seminar groups were too big for meaningful discussion. On the city —…
