Tourism Management
Tourism Management is the study of one of the world's largest and most complex industries, examining how tourism is planned, developed, managed and made sustainable. It draws on business management, geography, economics, cultural studies and environmental science to understand the operational realities of tourism businesses alongside the broader effects of tourism on destinations, communities and the natural environment. Understanding tourism means engaging with questions about mobility, culture, identity, sustainability and economic development as much as with logistics and hospitality operations.
At Liverpool Hope University this three-year full-time degree explores both the operational components of the tourism industry, including accommodation, transport and attractions management, and the policy and planning frameworks that shape how tourism is developed and governed. The programme combines taught content with practical approaches, including industry visits, guest speakers and fieldwork, both nationally and internationally, giving you direct experience of how tourism operates in different contexts. The course includes a sandwich year, a year abroad and a work placement, providing substantial professional and international experience to complement your classroom-based learning.
Graduates from Tourism Management degrees go on to careers across the tourism and hospitality sector in a wide range of roles. Many find positions in destination management organisations, tour operations, hotel management, events management, travel retail and airline and cruise operations. Others work in public sector tourism agencies, heritage and cultural tourism, ecotourism and sustainable tourism planning.
The business and project management skills the degree develops are also valued in the broader events and leisure industries. Postgraduate study in tourism, hospitality, event management or sustainable development is an option for those wishing to develop further expertise.
