About this course

Financial mathematics applies the rigour of pure and applied mathematics to the complex problems of the financial world. At its core, the discipline is concerned with quantifying risk, pricing assets and modelling the behaviour of markets over time. It draws on probability theory, statistics, calculus and numerical methods to build frameworks that underpin decisions made every day by banks, investment funds, insurers and regulators.

For anyone with a strong mathematical mind who wants to work in finance, this field offers both intellectual depth and immediate practical relevance.

You will study the mathematical foundations of the subject alongside core financial theory. Probability and stochastic processes, differential equations, linear algebra and statistical modelling form the quantitative backbone of the programme. Alongside these you will develop knowledge of financial instruments, derivatives, portfolio theory and risk management, understanding not only the mathematics involved but the financial contexts in which these tools are applied.
