Languages and cultures of the Middle East, Africa, and South and Southeast Asia, studied alongside law, opens a genuinely distinctive intellectual and professional pathway. These are among the most demographically dynamic, economically significant, and politically consequential regions of the contemporary world, and yet they are systematically underrepresented in conventional Western legal and humanities education. This degree at SOAS, the UK's specialist institution for the study of these regions, takes the languages, cultures, and legal systems of these areas as its primary focus. At SOAS you will develop knowledge of one or more of the languages and cultural traditions of the Middle East, Africa, or South and Southeast Asia, engaging with their literatures, histories, and intellectual traditions, alongside a rigorous grounding in law.
