About this course

Archaeology and geography are disciplines that share a common interest in how people and environments have shaped one another over time. Archaeology studies past human societies through their material remains, excavating and interpreting objects, structures, landscapes and biological traces to understand how people lived, how they organised themselves and how they interacted with the world around them. Geography, particularly in its physical and environmental dimensions, provides the scientific frameworks for understanding the landscapes, soils, climates and ecosystems within which those human stories unfolded. At the University of Glasgow, this four-year full-time programme brings these disciplines together, including a year abroad that provides direct exposure to different archaeological sites, landscapes and scholarly traditions.
