Cybersecurity and digital forensics address two sides of the same problem: how to protect digital systems from attack, and how to investigate and understand what happens when attacks succeed. Cybersecurity is concerned with the design and maintenance of secure systems, the identification of vulnerabilities, the management of risk and the response to incidents. Digital forensics applies the methods of scientific investigation to digital evidence, recovering and analysing data from devices, networks and cloud environments in ways that can support legal proceedings, organisational investigations or intelligence analysis.
