Econometrics and mathematical economics is one of the most technically demanding and professionally rewarding degrees available in the social sciences. Econometrics is the application of statistical and mathematical methods to economic data, allowing economists to test theoretical models against real-world evidence, estimate the effects of policies, forecast future trends and answer causal questions about how economic phenomena are related. Mathematical economics uses formal mathematics to develop rigorous theories of how economies and markets function.
