About this course

English language and psychology is a combination that brings together two disciplines which are, at their core, both concerned with understanding how minds produce and interpret meaning. English language and linguistics examines the structure, history, and social contexts of English, asking how the language works at the levels of sound, grammar, semantics, and discourse, and what the patterns of language use reveal about culture, identity, and social power. Psychology explores the mental processes of perception, cognition, memory, emotion, and social behaviour that underlie all human communication and experience. At the University of Glasgow you will study across four years on a full-time programme, with a year abroad that broadens your academic formation internationally. The English language strand develops your understanding of linguistic structure and meaning, tracing English from it
