About this course

Film and television are the dominant narrative arts of our time. They shape how we understand history, how we process social change, how we experience other cultures and how we encounter ideas that challenge our assumptions. The ability to make compelling screen content is a creative and technical skill of genuine value, and studying it seriously means learning both the craft of production and the critical understanding of how screen media works as art and as industry. At Southampton Solent University, the three-year full-time programme includes a foundation year for students who want additional preparation before beginning the full degree. You will study the principles and practice of filmmaking and television production, developing skills in camera operation, directing, editing, sound design and production management.
