About this course

Law with French is a degree that takes seriously both the precision of legal reasoning and the depth of understanding that comes from mastering another language and its culture. Law is a discipline that trains you to read carefully, argue rigorously and think clearly about how rules, rights and responsibilities shape society. Adding French to that foundation means engaging with France and the wider Francophone world on its own terms, and gaining access to a legal tradition, the civil law system, that underpins much of the world's legal infrastructure. At Strathclyde, you will study Scots law, which is itself a mixed legal system drawing on both civil and common law traditions, giving you a distinctive perspective on comparative law that is genuinely useful when studying alongside French.
