Zoology is the scientific study of the animal kingdom in all its extraordinary diversity, from the molecular mechanisms underlying animal physiology to the ecological relationships that govern how animals live and interact with their environments. It encompasses the evolutionary history of animal life, the genetics and development of individual organisms, the behaviour of animals in natural and managed settings, and the conservation challenges facing animal populations in an increasingly human-altered world. Zoologists bring together multiple scientific disciplines to understand the diversity of animal forms and the ways they function.
