The Gateway to Veterinary Science at the University of Bristol is a six-year programme designed for students who have the potential to become vets but do not meet the standard academic entry criteria to apply directly to the conventional five-year undergraduate Veterinary Science degree. It recognises that academic potential and a vocation for veterinary medicine are not always perfectly reflected in A-level grades, and it provides an additional year of preparation that gives students from a wider range of backgrounds access to one of the most demanding and rewarding professions in the health sciences.
