Linguistics with French combines the scientific study of how language works with the practical mastery of one of the world's most widely spoken and culturally important languages. Linguistics treats language as its primary object of study, asking how sounds, words, and sentences are structured, how meaning is created and communicated, how children acquire language, how language changes over time, and how it varies across social groups and communities. French adds a second dimension: genuine bilingual competence in a language that opens access to the cultures, literature, and intellectual life of the Francophone world.
